music is a mixture of past and recent experiences from raw
early years to newest technical and more emotional hearings.."
How would you characterize the development of your band
during this 2 years of existence?
from Hellas. I’m the George Diamantis the
vocalist of Sypsis. Development comes as a result of writing
music experience, and Ignatios our bassist and main composer
write music since very long time ago. That means our music
is a mixture of past and recent experiences from raw early
years to newest technical and more emotional hearings. Of
course musicianship becomes better and better by the years
adding to the stability of our sound.
you say that there is a specific concept that you follow or
can anything go as long as it is in the realm of the
philosophy of the band?
there’s not a specific concept behind our philosophy and
ideology. Everyone in the band is free to have his own ideas
and way of living. We promote nothing when it comes to the
philosophy its person might have. As for us, we take
incentives from anything that is around, culture, religion,
society, politics but most of all our deep emotions. Do what
What would you say has been your greatest influences both in
sound and aesthetics?
an answer our bassist must take, he writes all the music and
a great amount of the lyrics. As for my lyrical contribution
would come mostly from deep hate against certain form of
people, the dark nature of religions, the evilness of human
kind and brutal historic themes.
Is Greece a great place to be an extreme metal band ? What
kind of response do you get from the Greek metal fans?
is just a, let’s say mediocre, place to be as an extreme
band. Many people listen to metal but not lively supporting
it. They don’t buy a lot of cds or t-shirts and they
usually don’t easy attend live performances, except if
there is a well known band playing. This is not a newborn
situation caused by the crisis, but something rather old in
Greek metal scene. It’s probably the mentality of the
supporters here. But as I said before is a mediocre
situation and you can find some true followers of this music
How pleased are you with your latest recorded work? What
kind of responses do you want to get from it?
the vocals which are my part in this play, I’m totally
disappointed! I’m not speaking for the way they are
recorded, but about the way they sound. I find them a bit
weak and flat, although a lot of those who heard the demo
felt they were ok! Anyway, in the forthcoming full length
will be harsh and raw the very old way. Now concerning the
response, It’s just our first appearance, so will try to
make it to as many ear as we can. And for the album we want
to do an impact to the scene big enough to get as much
attention as we can and spread the way we thrash….!
Your music have been compared with bands such as CORONER,
ATHEIST, SADUS. How do you find your sound? Do you take a
whole bunch of influences and mix them together to make it
to such bands are utterly accurate. Those bands, together
with others like ACCUSER, SODOM, TESTAMENT, PROTECTOR and
alike are major influence for us. But there other music
(always in metal) we listen and combine to what we compose.
Hopefully though we try to infiltrate all those influences
and deliver something strong and in a way different to those
we might catch their attention.
Does it become easier with time to write songs or is it a
much more difficult process in that you don´t want to
repeat what you´ve already done?
I said our main composer is our bassist. He creates music
for many years now but never recorded something like that we
do now. So I guess he have a lot of ideas that want to
deliver in the best possible way he can.
It might be too early, seeing as you’re working on it
right now, but what can we expect from the forthcoming
yes, it is a bit early. But we already have some material on
the way so we have a first glimpse of what is to come… And
that will be fast technical and well played thrash metal
with as raw as the genre can “take” vocals.
Another of my fave areas is art work. In my opinion bad art
work can’t kill great record but great art work can make a
half decent record seem so much better? What are you
opinions on art work?
very true. Artwork can kill or revive a record, no matter
the quality inside. For our first release we chose to do
something from a guy here in Greece, playing with photoshop
to create a part of social reality here in our country. In
the upcoming release we might use something more harsh for
the eyes and try to synchronize it
with parts from our lyrics. Time will tell for that.
What are some of your interests, occupations and hobbies
outside of composing sick music?
we all have our jobs trying to survive the new ways of
living here in Greece. Beside that and music, reading, a
good (old) movie or a walk in the forest, we play a little
basketball or football, stuff like that to empty our minds
No more questions my friend. Just thanks for your time and
good luck for your future plans. Closing
for the interest. Listen to metal and support it as much as
