Realized at: 01st, April 2014
(Answers by Nico - Guitars & Evandro - Vocals.)

"To be honest, we’ve never really thought of ourselves as being underground. Maybe we’re a little naive, but we’d like everybody to enjoy our music. Maybe someday they will. As for how the underground is doing, you should ask them."

1. You are a pretty young band, however all of your members was friends from years ago. How did the bandmembers come together to found RESURRECT TOMORROW?

„Well, that’s quite a story actually! Aaron and me (Stephan) have been friends and playing in bands together for over a hundred years. We met I think at the age of 13 or 14 when we were at school. I was playing the guitar in a punkband back then, and as we were looking for a drummer, Aaron showed up. Since that moment, Aaron and I have always been playing together. Ilja also went to that same school, and he’s been in several bands and projects with me, and some with Aaron. Fast forwarding to 2012, Aaron, me and Jeffrey met up after a previous band had broken up. We wanted to start a new band to play some kind of metal, and we would find out what it would be as we went along. We placed an ad on the internet looking for a lead singer. The first and only response came from Hakan. We met up, had a couple of drinks together and decided that it just felt right. Also, Hakan happened to have an awesome voice. Hakan immediately joined us when we showed him some stuff we were working on. We set ourselves a goal of creating enough good songs to fill an album, before we ever saw the stage with Resurrect Tomorrow. After 10 months we went to Turkey to play some shows. Not too long after we came back, bass player Jeffrey decided to quit. As we wanted to keep going without slowing down, I called Ilja to tell him there was an open spot and that we wanted him for the job. Since Ilja was already a long time friend he easily fit into the group. So there you have it…the somewhat shortened version of the forming of our band!”

2. You describe your music as thrash metal, hard rock, speed metal...etc. It´s not strange we can find a varied range of musical styles into your music. Could you tell the new listeners what can they exaclty expect from your compositions?

„We like to keep challenging ourselves while playing music. Also, any member of the band can put his influences in our music. We like to think that our songs are some kind of a journey towards…well, towards something you, as a listener, can fill in for yourself. Of course lyrically, the story is told but with room for anyone’s own interpretation. Most of our songs are very much riff-based. There’s not a lot of powerchording going on most of the time. One thing we sure do not want to do, is to create the same album twice. So expect fresh riffs and compositions on the next album! „

3. - Speaking of your debut album, tell us something more about it, where it was recorded, mixed and mastered? Did the final product surpass your expectations?

„The album was recorded in Middelburg, by Willy Berrevoets. He also did an amazing job as some kind of coach, perhaps you could even say producer, as well as the mixing. We had the mastering done by Source Mastering in Paris, FR. The amazing fact on this one is, they did it in one day and it instantly was what we wanted. As for our expectations - yes. The final product surpassed our expectations. In a way this was because the album kept maturing while we were recording it. Even though we knew it was going to sound good, in the end we were extremely pleased with the result.”

4. Tell us something about the main idea of the 9 tracks. The cover, the title, and everything involved?

„Well, the song A Dying Lie is actually the last song we wrote before going into the studio. We really had to push it to get it done in time! After listening to all of our pre-records, we all decided that A Dying Lie was musically and lyrically the main theme of the album.

The other tracks weren’t written back to back, and are a collection of ideas and experiences from the years leading up to the album. Most of them are confrontational, and often existential, as is A Dying Lie. The main idea that runs through the album is about asserting yourself, finding yourself, and the music expresses this in an aggressive, yet positive, manner I think also because it is a youthful expression of these feelings.

As for the cover, we knew we wanted some kind of „flat” design. Ilja designed and drew the the cover art.”

5. Pick a song from the new album, "A Dying Lie," that you feel to be the most interesting lyrically, musically or having a good story about it and tell me about it.

„To me the title song A Dying Lie is the most interesting song. Musically it has almost every sub style of the other songs on the album, yet it doesn’t feel like some kind of forced style-compilation to me. I really like that. On top of that, I really like the way Hakan sounds on that one. I think it brings out the best facets of his voice. The story of the song also speaks to me. The song tells a story about some soldier who is being tortured and the person who is doing the torturing. The song keeps switching between those perspectives while they come to terms with each other. But since they are locked in battle, they know that both of them won’t see another day, when at the end all hell breaks loose. For some reason, this song fits is my favorite to play!”

6. You've been playing a number of shows recently and you have a reputation for your performances; are live shows a central aspect of Resurrect Tomorrow? What have been the best and worst live experiences you've had?

„I would say that the live shows are a big part of Resurrect Tomorrow. To me, playing live is the most important thing, and the part that I enjoy the most. We play extremely loud, fast, and it doesn’t feel like a ’too-well-oiled’ machine. I think it sounds good though, but I feel that every show up to this point is unique, even though we may have played the same set more than once. We all have the freedom to do some improvising at the live shows which I think adds a lot of personality to the whole thing. It’s more than just playing the songs that are on a cd. To me, it’s playing them in a certain way…I find it hard to describe it, so the best thing you can do to find out is to see for yourself at a live show! „

7. Are there any certain religious or philosophical beliefs within the band? What are your attitudes towards fans that like your music but do not have your ideals?

„Obviously, yes. We are people, not machines. What we said about asserting yourself also applies to our fans, however, so even if we might not agree, we think the most important thing is to think for yourself.”

8. And how are you guys getting alone in private life? Do you hang out as a band or also as friends? Do you think its important to always be friends first and then a band mates?

„I think the kind of band we have can’t exist without being friends, and even family. That’s why when we were looking for band members, we went drinking first.”

9 . What are your thoughts about the underground scene and the Dutch scene in particular?

„To be honest, we’ve never really thought of ourselves as being underground. Maybe we’re a little naive, but we’d like everybody to enjoy our music. Maybe someday they will. As for how the underground is doing, you should ask them.”

10. Well, I´ve got no more questions! What would you say to our readers in conclusion?

„We’d love to meet them all! So, give us enough of a shout-out and we might find a way to visit!”
