are many bands in Germany playing melodic
death metal, but there are not many German
bands dealing with Northern and Germanic
Mythology. Niflhel from the West of
Germany are a young band which released a
cool self-financed album on CD entitled
“A Warrior Comes Home”. It was funny
to discover this band by writing a review
for THE PAIN FUCKTORY from South America
because the Niflhel guys live in my direct
neighbor town Hamm, only 16 km from my
home, haha! I guess, you won´t know them
either. So I talked to Niflhel singer
Micha Gruen to get an introduction to the

band developed out of an unfinished thrash
metal band. Simon was the first one who
entered this band before they asked me to
join as a vocalist. Although it was thrash
metal again, I told them to do it and
tried a little bit. After some line-up
changes and additions, Niflhel was created
out of this.
band name is taken from the Northern
Mythology. What´s the meaning of it
is the word for Hell in the Germanic
Mythology for all those who won´t enter
Valhalla. Above it reigns the Goddess of

your lyrics also deal with Northern
Mythology? Or do you have different topics
about Northern Mythology, yes. But on the
new album we also have 2 songs about
“The Game Of Thrones”.
books and movies can you recommend dealing
with those topics?
TV series “Vikings” and the book
“The Edda” are our main influences.
only album “A Warrior Comes Home” was
released 4 years after the foundation of
the band. How much time did it take to
write and record the songs?
went by very quickly, but finishing the
album took lots of time due to several
line-up changes. But we were in the studio
for only a few days. Together with Dennis
and Stefan, and after the album release
with Nils, we finally found our stable
line-up which fits perfectly. You will
hear that on the songs for the next album
album was self-released on CD, without a
label in the back. Wasn´t that expensive?
How many copies were made? And where did
you do it?
were not sure about the final costs
because we paid per hour! So we had a lot
of pressure to not waste too much time! It´s
better to keep the whole price as a
secret, but I can tell you that it was
really expensive! That´s why we try to
make some money with gigs. We will have
more money for the next album and we will
have more time for it. But a good album
does not need to be expensive! It must fit
to the songs!
album cover looks great! Who painted it?
And how did you get in contact with the
guy is called Maxim Kostim. He does great
work and his cooperation was awesome. When
we asked to use one of his pictures, he
agreed at once.

Niflhel, you sang in a death-/thrash metal
band called Deathstruction. Was it
important for you that both Deathstruction
and Niflhel sounded totally different? Or
did that happen accidently, more or less?
first, I didn´t really care about that.
But when we founded Niflhel, we knew that
it had to sound differently. I didn´t
really want to sing thrash metal anymore.
are your future plans with Niflhel?
like I said: We work intensively on new
songs and we hope to enter the studio in
September 2017. We will play many shows
this year. You can check the dates on our
