play what we want, we're not following

sounds good, we’ll use it."
You have been existing as a duo since your formation in
2004. What´s the reason of this solid alliance and which
are your goals for the near future?
the beginning it was a creative and fun way just to do
music, there were no major plans with it or any other
purpose behind it. Play guitar, write some songs and have a
goals are to record a full length album and with that
material be able to hit the roads.
You have just recorded one EP with 7 tracks. Are you already
planning to record a full lenght album?? Tell us some
important details in advance please.
we are! A teaser with 3 pre-recorded songs are on YouTube
for anyone to see. At this moment it looks like it will be
10 songs on the upcoming album. The plan is to have it
released this autumn.
What stands behind the IN MY EMBRACE name? Is there any
special meaning behind it? Who had the idea to use that name
for the band?
was the one who came up with the name In My Embrace.
It comes from a point of view on life itself. Shit happens
and you can't always control it, but you can control how you
deal with it. Not to neglect people’s hardships, struggles
and worries. The point is that life is what you make of it.
It's not easy but you can give up or keep pushing forward,
it's your choice.
Can you explain the method of songwriting employed by yours?
Is the writing process generally collective or does one
member often craft the song on his own?
the early days me and Bosse made the music together. We sat
in the sofa and jammed for hours and recorded on a cellphone
or minidisc. The foundations of the songs
"Nattvandraren", “Diabolical Masquerade” and
"Thy Abhorrence" (the last one a tune from the
upcoming album) was made back then. Nowadays most of the
music is written by me. Usually I'll make a foundation with
the drums and guitars, some times also bas and vocals (if we
already have lyrics) after that we try to develop the tune
together. Bosse handles the lyrics, guitar solos and some of
the guitar harmonics. Jon will handle the bas from now on.
Sometimes in collaboration with me. Perhaps on a future
second full length album, Bosse and Jon will take a bigger
part in the creating of the music as well. Time will tell.
Talking back about your previous release "Dead To Dust
Descend", how was the response the band gained so far?
If possible share with us some positive and negative
feedback towards this EP 2014?
response has been mostly positive, but the funniest of the
negative ones were one guy that in a review wrote that we
played power metal with growl vocals. Most of the positive
reactions have been as a result of the lyric video that
Sliptrick Records released march 22nd 2014 on YouTube. The
background cinematics in that video is from the Blizzard
Entertainment game Diablo 3.
How do you perceive the advances of technology and the
internet changing the music industry in the future? Will the
CD as a product become a fanatic’s item like the LP is
awesome, you don't need to spend a ton of money to be able
to make great sounding music anymore. If anything the CD
will go the way of the Dodo and the fanatics will stick with
the LP. On the downside perhaps music looses a bit of it’s
soul when it’s easier to create and do business with,
people writing music to goodlooking artists with the aim to
make money; not so much about creating good music for the
music itself or what you want to say with it.
Sweden's metal scene is quite big and has a lot of many
great bands. Do you think that the fact you are coming from
there helps you in a way or is it bad because of the big
circle of good bands?
you see it from different perspectives, Swedish metal can
probably be seen as a quality stamp and you can find many
great bands to get inspiration from. But on the other hand
it can make it harder to stand out in the crowd of all
amazing bands that’s out there.
What makes a band special? What is that vital ingredient
that separates a good band from a great one?
marketing and a lot of luck when it comes to creating music
that seems to be at the right moment in time. And perhaps
music that never gets old, it’s timeless and not part of a
How would you describe IN MY EMBRACE as a whole? Is there
anything that makes the group different compared to most new
and upcoming bands?
play what we want, we're not following trends or a certain
style. If we think it sounds good, we’ll use it. The thing
that matters is that we’re happy, we don't feel any
pressure to please anyone.
it's always nice to hear that there are people out there who
like what we do. Does this make us different from other
bands? Maybe, maybe not.
What do you think about the current Death/Black Metal scene
worldwide. Which are the bands you have the biggest respect
for? Which are the most outstanding and influential ones?
Well, There´s a lot of good bands and many great new
releases. The best ones are in my opinion At The Gates - At
War With Reality and Behemoth - The Satanist. Other then
that I’m also a big fan of Dissection, Edge Of Sanity,
Belphegor and Nevermore.
I think it’s good. I don’t have any interest in praising
or talking down a band. BUT, bands I listen to a lot are:
Alcest, Winterfylleth, Dark Funeral, Funeral Mist, Agalloch,
Windir, Undivine, Rimthurs, Diabolical, Planet Rain,
Behemoth, Marduk, Ereb Altor, At The Gates, Dissection,
Immortal and Wodensthrone.
It's pretty healthy I think There are a lot of great bands
around and they are coming from all over the world! Some of
my personal favorite among current bands are: Spawn of
possesion, Dyscarnate, Aborted, Allegaeon, Agalloch and so
OK, we have become to the end. If I have missed anything
please feel free to add to this interview.
Prepare your anus for our full lenght album! We’re going
in hard and dry!
I Don’t think I can say it better than Jon.
Well, I don’t really sign on to the last two comments but,
well, I’m drinking a beer right now so SKÅL FÖR FAN! \m/
