1. If you look back at the band from the time you started to where you are at now how would you like to describe that journey?  

How to word this without sounding incredibly cliché; well when we wrote our first song “500 miles ain’t enough” we weren’t even a band yet, we just wrote the song for fun.  It went well enough that we decided to write some more and that’s really how the band was born.  From then to now we’ve become more serious about the music and we’ve all grown a lot in terms of musicality.  “Hand. Full of Regret” was really us experimenting with different styles which we really hadn’t done before.  It was a lot of fun and I think it went well, but you can expect a return to our edgy thrash sound on our next album.

2. How do you find your sound? Do you take a whole bunch of influences and mix them together to make it your brew?

It varies. Sometimes I’ll be inspired by a song I heard and I’ll write a song of a similar style.  For example, I wrote “Do Not Resuscitate” after listening to Slayer’s “Christ Illusion” album. Other times I’ll be inspired by some emption or experience and I’ll pick a style to suit the meaning behind the lyrics.

3. How much time and effort do you spend on the band to get everything to look and sound the right way?  

Typically as long as it takes.  Some songs come easier than others and require very little fine tuning; other songs will be done and redone over and over until they’re how we want them.  Eventually, if one song is holding up progress, we’ll just get it as good as possible and call it done. 

4. Would you say that there is a specific concept that you follow or can anything go as long as it is in the realm of the philosophy of the band?  

Really anything can go, we generally stick to a range of styles but we’re open to the idea of stepping out of our comfort zones.  When we pick songs to cover, we try to pick songs that are not something we would’ve written on our own.  

5. Can you explain the method of songwriting employed by FRENZIED MADNESS? Is the writing process generally collective or does one member often craft the song on his own?  

Everyone writes for their own individual instrument typically. If I start with a drum track, I might tell our guitarist what I had in mind when I wrote it but ultimately it’s up to him what he does.  That works all ways depending on who writes the first piece of the song. 

6. How pleased are you with your latest recorded work? What kind of responses do you want to get from it?  

I’m very happy with how it came out. Like I said previously, the e.p was an experiment in a lot of ways and I’d say it was a successful one. I would hope that listeners would appreciate the change of pace we took on it and not be critical of the change. Nobody should want to keep playing the same thing anymore than someone should want to keep listening to the same thing. 

7. Over the years thrash metal has evolved to be not just one specific sound. Is there any specific thrash metal sound that means more to you than the other?  

I’m more of a fan of the classic thrash metal sound, it is and will always be among my favorite styles of music. I have nothing against the modern thrash sound, I’m just naturally partial to the style I was first introduced to. 

8. With the easy access to internet you can spread your music across the globe just sitting in front of your computer. How much effort do you put into promoting the band world-wide?  

Everything we record gets put on the internet and we constantly post about it on social media and try to network with other bands from all parts of the world. Gaining an audience is the most important thing to us, we’ll take support from anyone and everyone that will give it.

1.  If you look back at the band from the time you started to where you are at now how would you like to describe that journey?  

It's hard to believe we've only been a band for a little over a year. Our second E.P. "Hand. Full of Regret!" came out 51 weeks after our first E.P. "The ByrAndrew Projekt." I've known Andrew and Shawn awhile, so I blur our time together before we were a band with the past year in the studio. 

2.  How do you find your sound? Do you take a whole bunch of influences and mix them together to make it your brew?  

As the guitarist I typically come up with my line by deciding if i want to chug away at a chord of i want to create a single note riff. A lot of our best songs use a combination of the two like; "Total Eclypse"," and "Marked For Death." I'll often layer the two ideas in one section like "Do Not Resuscitate," and the chorus of "State of Philadelphia." There are a lot of influences for us. We cover classic heavy metal, blues, grunge and alternative rock even though we're a metal band. I played violin before guitar, and I've been studying jazz in college, so I draw from those sources also to create songs like, "Inzomnia," or "Sun and Stars." Then you combine Shawns' experience with Andrews' ferocity and you get an album that'll stick in your head and melt your face. 

3.  How much time and effort do you spend on the band to get everything to look and sound the right way?  

We spend so much time getting everything right. And that's good and bad. When we record we can take as much time as we need to get a riff, melody, or drum line perfect. I've seen Andrew do the same drum section over a hundred times because he was slightly off. I spent three days recording the solo for "Total Eclypse," and that's barely a 40s solo. I just kept thinking I could do better. And that's the downside; we take forever getting the tracks to Shawn, and that in turn slows down production. "Tartarus," could've come out a full month early if we were more conservative with time. But I'm not upset about that; the benefits of being independent are we set our own deadlines. 

4.  Would you say that there is a specific concept that you follow or can anything go as long as it is in the realm of the philosophy of the band?  

Our philosophy is to be Frenzied Madness. We're all open to write or play whatever as long as it's enjoyable or a challenge. Our albums do have themes though, and each song in that album has a theme of its' own that, somehow, relates to the albums theme. "Tartarus," is about the world falling apart and literally going to hell. "Burning Skies," is about the sky falling (surprise) and hell coming to Earth. "State of Philadelphia," and "Inzomnia," are about Andrews' personal hell on Earth. [chuckles] 

5.  Can you explain the method of songwriting employed by FRENZIED MADNESS? Is the writing process generally collective or does one member often craft the song on his own?

Our songs are typically initiated by one person. They'll write and record the basics of the song before passing it on to the group. Once it's in the group though it becomes a team effort. We collaboratively add and subtract sections; we even make them heavier or softer as we see necessary. And none of us have a problem with being told something doesn't sound good or if something could be played better. And that doubles back to how we can spend a few days in the studio since some sections may need to change to better compliment someone else’s idea. So we can spend about a week writing and making temporary recordings; then spend another week actually recording and getting every section perfect. This doesn’t mean we only write for our respective instruments. Andrew and I commonly onomatopoeia ideas at each other. I'll beatbox a rhythm and he'll sound a riff. That's how we get songs like "This Fire Dies Tonight," and that's pretty great. 

6.  How pleased are you with your latest recorded work? What kind of responses do you want to get from it?  

Tartarus came out great to me. It showed off our talent and what we could do. I'm still listening to it and getting pumped like the first time I heard it. Honestly we've gotten more coverage than I expected which is awesome to me. The fact that people will pay our music inspires us to write heavier, darker, and crazier stuff. That's why our seasonal singles, [All Tricks No Treats, and Unholy Night] and our new E.P. [Hand. Full of Regret!] are so amazing. And our next full length album is going to be even better. 

7.  Over the years thrash metal has evolved to be not just one specific sound. Is there any specific thrash metal sound that means more to you than the other? 

I don't know what this question is asking, but the guitar sound is supposed to be a combination of all the bands I envy, and would love to play live with. Our group sound tends to revolve more around the song we're playing, or more specifically the section in the song we're playing. Thrash metal isn't about a specific sound it's about making the heaviest most whiplash inducing song you can; I keep that in mind whenever I'm writing a song like that. 

8.  With the easy access to internet you can spread your music across the globe just sitting in front of your computer. How much effort do you put into promoting the band world-wide?

Our international success is all thanks to Shawn. He's really good at pushing our music all over the internet and making contacts along the way. The only reason we're in this magazine is because of what he does. I thank him every chance I get for what he does for the band. Andrew and I could write the best music, but without Shawn we wouldn't have; mixing, mastering, distribution, management, or our bass lines. Shawn is the reason we can do what we do. And I don't forget that.

1.  If you look back at the band from the time you started to where you are at now how would you like to describe that journey?  

I would say very interesting, at least for me.  I’ve been in a few bands over the years but, this one is the best one yet! 

2.   How do you find your sound? Do you take a whole bunch of influences and mix them together to make it your brew?  

Our sound comes from a variety of influences because we all have slightly different tastes in music. Since I am the oldest in the band, I am 40, I am mainly influenced by the older thrash/technical metal scene.  

3.     How much time and effort do you spend on the band to get everything to look and sound the right way?  

We spend as much time as we need to achieve our vision.  Our EPs normally don’t take as long to produce since everything is done in my studio, DETHMETL Studios.  

4.  Would you say that there is a specific concept that you follow or can anything go as long as it is in the realm of the philosophy of the band?  

Our main philosophy is just be ourselves and be true to the music.  Once you start trying to become the next big band by imitating you have just ruined your chances.  I mean there are tons of copycat bands that seem to be afraid to invent their own style and I believe that’s what Frenzied Madness is doing; blueprinting a new unique style. 

5.  Can you explain the method of songwriting employed by FRENZIED MADNESS? Is the writing process generally collective or does one member often craft the song on his own? 

We are very collaborative in the every aspect of our music even though we are currently in different starts so sometimes that slows down the process a little.   Our last EP, Hand. Full Of Regret!, included Spare Change, which was one of my songs from a very long time ago.  But, most of the time the songs begins with a basic idea then forms to a final song after we all add our own specifics to it. 

6.  How pleased are you with your latest recorded work? What kind of responses do you want to get from it? 

Since I mainly handle the mixing and mastering I will always “hear” something that I could have done better.  That said I really like how everything is turning out….especially Crying Over Spilt Milk, I think it’s the best song in terms of the mix and master on the EP. 

7.   Over the years thrash metal has evolved to be not just one specific sound. Is there any specific thrash metal sound that means more to you than the other? 

Not really.  We don’t want to box ourselves into a musical corner. Again, being the oldest I grew up listening to all sorts of Metal to include; Voivod, Megadeth, Slayer, King Diamond and Metallica to name a few.  

8.  With the easy access to internet you can spread your music across the globe just sitting in front of your computer. How much effort to you put into promoting the band world-wide?  

I am also acting as the promoter and manager so I put lots of time into promotion.  I landed our first gig at Webster Theatre in Hartford, being played on the Boris Dixit podcast and this interview but, I DO NOT take all the credit because Andrew and Byran are the reason this band exists!
