"...death metal is what guide us ,and death metal is our inspiration, we don't play to prove anything, we play to satisfay our passion, to pull out all that we hold inside "
Hails Beppe, you are one of the founders of the band, after
forming Ulvedharr, how so you became with the idea to
establish COTW motivated for your passion to death metal?
After my abandonment of the project Ulvedharr, I decided to devote myself to music that been with me since I was a kid and I searched for guys who share this passion with me, thus was born COW project,a project that seeks to return to the
beginnings, to the true essence of death metal.
It was difficult to establishing CRYPT OF THE WHISPER in the
Italian scene? What are your greatest achievements and
Unfurtunately in Italy death has been snubbed,
layelyeverything has gotten worse in the music scene with the coming of new groups that will now lead to a death much moore technical, forgetting everything that was at the base of death metal,we have had many falls but many satisfactions, especially on a personal level,we shared stages with us his passion for music ,these are true satisfactions
would you describe COTW as a whole? Is there anything that
makes the band different compared to most new and upcoming
The only definition that comes to my mindis "death metal", we have nothing to prove to anyone, death metal is what guide us ,and death metal is our inspiration, we don't play to prove anything, we play to satisfay our passion, to pull out all that we hold inside
You guys seem to be very old school in your approach to
metal. When in your opinion was the best metal produced?
I can not give a clear and precise answer, metal is a term really to generic.I can say that with regard death metal in my opinion the best work dates back to the early days of the genre, there are good products even now,but my opinion it's all music already heard the music now has already written throughout innovation and genious' works are very rare, even in our own way we rest in music already written, and never forgetting the true archaic death metal
I have my personal death metal favourites that I keep
returning to (Death, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Entombed
etc.). What are the ultimate death metal bands in your
I think the last valid death metal's band are: Maveth and Desolate Shrine from Finland, Father Befouled and Adversarial from u.s., Dead Congregation from Greek, Cruciamentum from Englad. Never forget the ol d fathers Incantation, Morbid Angel,Sinister and Malevolent
When you’re a band on demo level what ways are there to
spread the word of the band?
Here everyone can be at the level of a demo, the important thing is to have money, nothing else.In Italy people listen to commercial music nobody invest more than a single euro in something different
How hard is it to print a demo on your own and then spread
it to the right channels? Is there like a directory you can
use to help further your cause?
Print alone is perhaps easiest thing,
the difficult thing is the spread, death metal is a very
small underground movement, few are willing to spend for
groups thath will never be the "big"
When you release a record how much attention do you pay to
things like track order, lay out and art work? How planned
We have thought a lot about the disposition of the
tracks, and having a very tight budget we had to make a
selection of songto record, thinking about what would have
been better to disk, and which would have been better live
You recorded your
second demo, back in 2013, so I’m guessing you’ve come a
bit since. How’s the writing process going, any plans so
far for next recording session?
The experience of the recording was very important
and required by all a remarkable concentration and a
remarkable attention to every sound, every beat, from the
beginning we had an idea of the sound that would have to
have the disc and we have satisfied. Now we are working on
new tracks that in our opinion rapresent the true spirit of
you have serious opportunities for live shows in your area?
How many times per month can you play live?
We could say that it's impossible to play like
this, now many clubs accept or italian music or cover
bands, all that is different is snubbed, there are very few
places that still give the oppurtunity to play. We can't
talk about concerts per month, we'relucky to make 6/7 for
11. What would you consider the hardest part
about playing in an Underground band?
The hardest part is definitely organize
events, find concerts. There are lots of underground bands
with whom to collaborate, but there are very few places willing to let them play
As we near the end of this interview, might you have
anything else that you'd like to mention that mayhaps I may
We would just be given more space to all these underground bands that play with a lot more passion than many bands that do so only for money. We would that this whole music's mafia to end,and we don't say it for the money but because we really disgusted with how the world of music go here.
