“Our music is open for interpretation, however the music does play the biggest part in our band in most songs (...)"

You are almost three years on the scene. How would you characterize the development of your band during this period of time?

”A bit turbulent. We have changed our line-up a lot of times since the beginning. However during this time we have evolved in our writing from a bit more punk-like metal to straight up Heavy Metal. We´ve written a lot of songs that vary in style and feel. We have learnt to interact in a band and give each other space to evolve individually as well as cooperatively. During our live-shows we´ve got better at interacting with each other and the audience.”

First and only release from your camp is - EP „United By Hunger“. Try to enlighten this material to us. How long time it took to record it and in what manner you wrote ideas for this material?

”Well the recording-process took us three days, with the Paranoid-cover recorded later that summer. The songs were mixed and mastered by Exercise Music in Karlshamn. “Hunting-time was one of the first songs we wrote and feels like a statement for what kind of band we are. We wrote “It´s all dark” rather quickly based off of our bass player´s picking-pattern over the chords that makes the song. Paranoid just felt like a great song to cover and has proven to be a great live-song!”

I believe that every band has their own way in composing music… so how do you proceed with a song-writing? What elements highly emphasized during the song-writing period

”Most often either Martin or Rasse have an riff-structure or even an entire song written for the guitar that we then proceeds to make into an actual full-band song. Other times we just jam out until we have the basics for a song and then sit down and work out the details.”

What music format do you prefer the most; vinyl, CD, or cassettes? Do you think it is really good to release one album in these three mentioned formats?

”Vinyl has a special feel to it. Well releasing something on cassette in these days seems kind of pointless. However vinyl and CD is still a great way to get your music out there, though the best way in these days is digital streaming.”

The EP was released one year ago. Do you work on new material relentlessly or do you take your time while preparing a new recording?

“We actually have a new EP recorded at the moment just waiting for the final mixing and mastering before releasing it. We´ve got some new stuff and some older unreleased material on it. We will probably release it at the end of this year. But we are always coming up with new stuff that we later on work into new songs.”

What ways has been the best for you in order to promote the band? What do you do to reach as many interest as possible?

“Well social medias has been the most effective way to get our music out there. As well as social medias, live shows and local promotion (posters, our EP in the recordstore etc.) has been a great way of reaching out to our local fans.”

The metal bands often have a few slogans to motivate themselves in special moments, such as before gigs or during rehearsals... So, what are yours?

“Carpe diem mothafuckas”

Your music sounds bloody enthusiastic and intense. What drives you to write such stuff? What charges you with such energy?

”Swedish snus, energy drinks and goat blood.”

Is it important for you if listeners understand you or do not? I mean… What kind of role do the lyrics play in the concept of BREAKOUT? — do you have a concrete one or do you see it as a universal language that is open to interpretations?

“Our music is open for interpretation, however the music does play the biggest part in our band in most songs. It differs from song to song, some are more focused on the lyrics than others.”

What’s your view on the value of music today? In what way does the abundance of music change our perception of it?

”Todays force-feeding of pop-music makes the average listener dull to “real” music written by actual bands, this makes the role of music today differ from what it was. Today it´s more like something you have in the background rather than something we first-handed listen to.”

In your opinion what are the advantages of Swedish bands? What could be much better in Sweden?

“Our opportunities for support by different organizations funded by the state to support cultural acts and artists makes it easy to get together and start a band. They´ve given us a place to rehears, setting up gigs for us and supplying needed stuff for us.”

Are there some parts of the world that really impress you due to the quality of the bands coming from the same area?

”Well Scandinavia has a pretty good selection of bands. Such as Breakout and Taste Good! ;)”

How long do you think you can continue to keep this going for and why do you feel the type of heavy metal that you play is the best kind out there? Any newer bands you like or do you prefer to stay rooted in the ’80s/’90s scene of hard rock and heavy metal?

”We´ll keep on doing this until we die. Heavy metal is much heavier than other types of metal and therefor it is the heaviest of all metals. Well we prefer bands that’s rooted in the 80´s and 90´s though there are newer bands that sound just as good, such as Royal Blood, Ghost and Taste Good!” Thank you for taking the time to speak to subexistance. Do you have any final words, or anything you would like to add?

”Carpe diem mothafuckas Breakout is here to stay, remember our name bitches.”
